Considering that today’s students were born wired, and live and play in the world of the Web, the challenge for many teachers and administrators is meeting students on their own turf and adapting to the students’ medium of choice. Specifically, the emergence of social networks has created a technical gap between teachers, students, and parents unlike any that has previously existed. The need to use technology in the classroom is becoming more important every day. Clearly, social networking will be at the core of any technology that is to succeed in the classroom.
Although some teachers are hesitant to use social networking (also referred to as Web 2.0) – considering privacy issues and a potentially steep learning curve – it’s important that they learn to understand and use these tools that are becoming increasingly embedded in the lives of their students.
As a child, one of the very best times at school is when a field trip is arranged so you can break free of the shackles of the classroom. However with childrens safety at the forefront of every parents and educators minds, this article look at how modern technology can make school field trips as safe as possible.
School field trips are a great experience for children as it gives them the chance to see exciting places and take it sights and sounds that are not available from a text book or DVD. It is for this reason that school field trips provide our children with such a buzz of excitement. However, field trips can also be a logistical nightmare for teachers as controlling several children in unfamiliar surroundings can be a difficult and stressful experience.
We are very divided as parents when it comes to the use of technology in our children’s lives. Some whole-heartedly embrace it, and some absolutely abhor the idea of allowing their children to spend any time in front of the computer. As with many great things in life, if we don’t use it wisely, we end up getting hurt more than we benefit.
I don’t allow my students nor my children to spend precious time on the computer playing games; however, I encourage them to spend time writing on the computer and visiting educational websites to take quizzes and read informative articles. I even encourage them to write e-mail, provided they produce content rich e-mail.
No one can deny the fact that education is very important to learning. Nowadays, modern technology has made learning more convenient and easier. Through instructional technology application, education can now be effectively taught either through classroom or online teaching programs.
Despite proving that this type of teaching is effective, it is just normal that traditional school and their faculties are hesitant to take on this type of teaching method for fear that a day will come, human labor will not be needed anymore.
